We opened Retreat at TreeGap in 2007 as a Bed & Breakfast dedicated to sustainable living.
Our goal is to provide a comfortable, beautiful space for our guests while employing practices that minimize our footprint on the land. We grow as much of our own food as possible using organic practices, and focus on acquiring what else primarily through our local food system.
Our solar panels produce roughly 75% of our electricity and we have recently begun to upgrade the older portion of the house with new insulation and high efficiency windows. After tightening the envelope of the building, we were able to reinstall high efficiency wood stoves. This source of heat also allows us to better manage our woodland.
Our ‘carriage house’ room includes many elements of sustainable design. The bathroom constitutes most of the new construction, which features recycled glass tile, a dual flush toilet, and reclaimed sink and vanity. We also utilized natural fiber insulation, and no VOC paint for our walls.
We look forward to seeing you soon and sharing this beautiful and historical property with you!
