The Marx Hotel - Downtown - University Area

Pros: The woman who aided me at check in was delightful, professional and helpful

Cons: When I called for the rate what I was quoted ended up being $60.00 more than what I ended up with by making the reservation online.

Pros: Breakfast was very good, but the man in charge of it was very slow, and we always had to wait for everything to be restocked. Everything would run out at once, and then there would be nothing until he was able to restock it, which took quite a while.

Cons: The restaurant was permanently closed, the hot tub was broken, and there was no ice on any floor the entire week. Every time we came in or left whoever was at the front desk rarely said anything at all. Once in a while, we got a hello, but that was it. Most of the time they completely ignored us.

Pros: Proximity to downtown. A clean, comfortable room with amenities like a refrigerator. Very quiet with easy entrance from front or back. Off street parking.

Best value in town.

Pros: The worst thing I can say is the place is a little outdated. But the value and location cannot be beat. Friendly helpful staff, huge rooms, Comfortable beds, hot hot water, full temp control in room, big parking lot, right in the middle of everything, closest accommodation to the University.

Cons: I didn't like breakfast. Its on main street so sometimes you hear people enjoying themselves late at night. Fixtures need updating. Thats all I got.

One of my Favorite Hotel Stays

Pros: The Marx Hotel has such personality, my partner and I really loved it. The hot breakfast options on weekend days were perfect quality, crunchiest bacon I have ever had at a hotel. The staff was so incredibly patient and kind with our questions and even gave us complimentary water bottles during our stay! The fact that the king bedroom was so so spacious and had a bathroom with great accessibility (A giant tub and two shower heads! One with a moveable shower hose is unheard of at hotels at this reasonably affordable price!) and very clean made it a 10/10. A++++ to everyone involved with upkeeping this hotel. BONUS - The second story takes you directly to Main St. where local shops are all so easy to walk to.

Cons: Barely anything, if at all, needs major improvement! A well-rounded hotel all around. The locks of the doors are a little stiff (which can be loud so I hope anyone on our floor was not bothered, lol), but can be easily managed. The Wi-Fi was a little spotty at times, but it came back enough for nighttime tablet watches. :) Note - Not the fault of the hotel itself, but be warned of the loud train horn sounds at night and early morning.

Pros: The property needs some updating in the common areas. The room had ample size with comfortable beds.

Cons: I didn’t like the linens. The towels weren’t great quality (thin) and the comforter was also of a lightweight fabric. The room wasn’t cold but the geographic area had gotten very cool

Short stay for college tour

Pros: Breakfast was good, rooms roomy, bed firm, bathroom good. Staff was very helpful
