South Shire

Lovely original hotel, clean & comfortable.

Pros: Lovely original old fashioned hotel with original fixtures & fittings dating back to 1880's (if I remember correctly) with antique furniture. Very clean, comfortable in a nice quiet area. Fantastic Thai restaurant in the dining room of the hotel.

Cons: A little confusing as the hotel entrance is the same as the Thai restaurant entrance. We had the ring the bell three times & it took 15 minutes before someone came to the check in desk. Apart from that a great one nights stay.

Pros: Unique, nicely furnished. Nice change to typical hotel rooms. Large space. Owner very helpful.

Cons: No actual problems in surrounding areas but felt a little uneasy when walking out after dark.

Pros: The room was fabulous, comfortable and spacious (Peach room), and the common areas are really lovely. Wonderful attention to aesthetic detail and very comfortable beds.

Cons: Breakfast was cancelled (due to illness) and the service during dinner on the on-site restaurant was impossibly slow.

Pros: Beautiful old house with charm and character. Our room was huge with a comfortable four poster bed. Convenient location for walking into town.

Pros: The staff was amazing. The bed and linens were comfortable.

Cons: The price was a bit high for the type of accomodation. We were in the peach room which was a bit dates but fine.

Pros: The location is fabulous. It’s convenient to all of Bennington, as well as Routes 7 and 7A, for exploring all the surrounding towns. The inn is beautiful and we were sorry we didn’t have more time there to sit and relax on the pretty porch or perhaps play a game or two in the sitting room. Joe is a perfect host and we hope to go back soon.

Cons: Having a small refrigerator in the room would have been helpful to keep fresh all the wonderful Vermont goodies we purchased!

Pros: Everything. From start to finish. Owners are really great and friendly. They really care about their guests. Wonderful room, clean, cosy. If we could, we would rate South Shire with a 20!

Cons: That we had to leave ;-)

Accommodating host!

Pros: Excellent location! Cool ambience. Host was very flexible when we requested a room change.

Cons: Very thin walls (noise). Mattress not as comfortable as we'd like.

Pros: First stay in a place like South Shire and it was the most amazing experience!!
